a. Course rationale
To confront the students with the complexity of the discipline on the basis of critical and theoretical texts. Focus is set on issues concerning definitions,
notions, levels. Analyses of cases may further illustrate the complexity.

| Contenu :

Focus is set on how to define the notion of 'comparative literature'; which definitions have been given? What are the issues? What are the objects? Which
goals? Which levels? How important are the notions of 'intertextuality' and 'metatexts'? Illustrations of cases concerning analyses of motives, genres,
periods, translations, adaptations are given.
