Objectifs : a. Course rationale
To confront the students with the complexity of the discipline on the basis of critical and theoretical texts. Focus is set on issues concerning definitions,
notions, levels. Analyses of cases may further illustrate the complexity.

Prérequis : a. EHSAL's general admission requirements are described in the education and examination regulations.
In order for the students to start their courses in the best possible way, they are expected to have the preliminary knowledge, competences, and attitudes
they acquired in the courses or modules listed below. Students should be able to apply them.
Based on 'Literary Theory' and 'European Culture and Literature IB'; analytic and synthetic reasoning + heuristic skills
b. The teacher would also like to draw your attention to the following prerequisites:

Contenu : Focus is set on how to define the notion of 'comparative literature'; which definitions have been given? What are the issues? What are the objects? Which
goals? Which levels? How important are the notions of 'intertextuality' and 'metatexts'? Illustrations of cases concerning analyses of motives, genres,
periods, translations, adaptations are given.

Dispositif : Lectures in which the mainstream is given + additional seminars analysing theoretical texts + illustrations of cases.
Evaluation : First exam period
The evaluation/assessment consists of a written exam (15/20) + work during the seminars (5/20)
