| Objectifs :

An introductory course for third-year bachelor degree students pursuing either academic or non-academic careers and seeking both theoretical and applied knowledge of international communication practices. The emphasis will be on core communication theories and concepts and how to employ them in policy application, analysis and research. The primary objective is to provide students with the analytical tools necessary to successfully combining academic and empirical professional skills and experiences. |

| Contenu :

The course will investigate topics related to the challenges and opportunities presented by the media in particular and the communication process in general, in a globalised world. It will touch upon media themes explored at greater length in other specialised communication courses, such as: mass communication and society, media and political process, intercultural communication, national identities and the media, political communication strategies, propaganda, stereotyping and communication prejudice, media diplomacy, among others. |

| Dispositif :

Each class session will be divided in two parts, with a short break in between. The instructor will review and present the topics of the day, engage students in the discussion, and raise questions for reflection. Occasionally guest lecturers from the European Institutions or the private sector will be invited to present an international communication issue of general interest. |

| Evaluation :
|
|
Class participation based on regular attendance and active contribution in class : 15%.
Short paper (5-7 pages) that concisely spells out a core concept of the course: 35%.
Final Exam : 50%. |

A selected list of recommended books will appear on the course syllabus. The books will be available at the library. Specific charters will be assigned by the professor. |
