10 reasons for coming to study at FUSL
FUSL has developed a specialization in teaching most aspects of the Human Sciences including Management Engineering, Economic and Management Science, Political, Social and Anthropological Science, Information and Communication as well as more traditional degrees such as Law, History, Philosophy, Germanic languages, French and Romance Language and Literature.
FUSL has particular expertise in teaching the first cycle foundation years leading to an undergraduate degree, in providing a thorough grounding in the crucially important first years of university education which have been its core business.
FUSL continually strives to offer an increasingly wide range of post-graduate Master’s and doctoral degree courses. FUSL is a partner in a range of doctoral schools in the Human and Social Sciences established within the French Community of Belgium.
FUSL is a pioneer in multilingual university education and over the last 20 years, has been offering undergraduates the opportunity of taking bilingual and trilingual degree courses.
There is an extensive range of English courses on offer. We are very keen to ensure that our students become competent in at least one language other than French by the end of their undergraduate education and have developed a comprehensive English course, equivalent to almost 60 ECTS, for foreign students who want to come and study within the framework of an exchange programme.
FUSL is a comfortable place to study. With 2600 students, we are able to offer teaching in small groups at both undergraduate and post-graduate level. Undergraduates will find themselves in groups of only 20 for a large number of seminars and practical courses whilst post-graduate doctoral students are ensured close and regular supervision. FUSL is reputed for its friendly atmosphere and relations between students and professors are relaxed, both in and out the classroom.
FUSL takes an interdisciplinary approach to education. Undergraduates have the option of majoring in one field and taking a minor in another, or of following a combined degree programme in two different fields. At post-graduate level, FUSL, in partnership with other universities within the ‘Louvain University Academy’, offers a number of interdisciplinary degrees.
FUSL provides evening classes, which means that it is possible to combine studying with professional life. This is primarily intended for post-graduates but is also the case for some undergraduate degrees such as Political Science and Law.
FUSL operates in a spirit of openness: all of our post-graduate and doctoral students, as well as our teaching staff and assistants have had previous experience of some other form of university education. And while the university still has its roots in a Christian tradition, we have opted clearly for a pluralist approach, reflected in the make-up of the teaching staff.
FUSL is right at the heart of Brussels, a city with an international flavour which is the capital of Belgium, of the Belgian French and Flemish Communities and the Capital of Europe.
